Kinesiology is the science of human movement, combining anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, and exercise prescription to improve how your body functions, performs, and recovers. At Genuine Athletics & Rehabilitation, our registered kinesiologists in Surrey and White Rock specialize in active rehabilitation, strength and conditioning, and corrective exercise to help you move better and feel stronger. Whether you’re recovering from an injury, managing chronic pain, or looking to optimize performance, we bridge the gap between physiotherapy and personal training with structured, progressive programs tailored to you.

Kinesiology is ideal for individuals recovering from ICBC injuries, post-surgical patients, or anyone dealing with issues like back pain, shoulder dysfunction, knee pain, or limited mobility. It’s also a great option for those looking to build strength safely, improve posture, and prevent future injuries. Many extended health insurance providers in BC now offer coverage for kinesiology, making it an accessible, cost-effective option. If you’re searching for kinesiology in Surrey or White Rock, our integrated, exercise-based approach delivers real, measurable results.

Why Kinesiology at Genuine?

What sets our kinesiology services apart is the environment in which your recovery takes place. At Genuine Athletics & Rehabilitation, you’ll have access to our 8,200 sq. ft. private training facility far beyond the limited space and basic equipment typically found in traditional physiotherapy gyms. This allows our kinesiologists to take a more comprehensive, performance-based approach to your rehab, using a wide variety of equipment and training methods to better replicate real-life movement, sport, and daily activity demands.

Our sessions go beyond simple exercises. With more space, better equipment, and a results-driven system, we’re able to progress you properly from early-stage rehab all the way back to full strength and function. Whether your goal is to return to work, sport, or just pain-free daily living, our environment allows us to challenge you safely and effectively at every stage of your recovery.

Combined with expert coaching, detailed progress tracking, and collaboration with our integrated healthcare team, our kinesiology program is designed to not just help you recover but come back stronger than before.

do you have an active icbc claim?

If you’ve been involved in a motor vehicle accident within the past 12 weeks and have an active ICBC claim, you are pre-approved for up to 12 ICBC-funded active rehabilitation sessions with our certified kinesiologists; no additional approval is required to get started.

Getting started is simple. Our team will collect a few key details, including your ICBC claim number, date of accident, and your adjuster’s contact information. From there, we’ll book your initial assessment with a dedicated kinesiologist, where we establish a clear baseline, identify your limitations, and build a personalized, results-driven action plan tailored to your recovery.

From day one, you’ll begin a structured active rehab program designed to restore movement, rebuild strength, and get you back to your normal routine as efficiently and safely as possible. This is where your recovery shifts into gear, bridging the gap between treatment and full return to function.

Fascial Stretch Therapy

Fascial Stretch Therapy is a gentle assisted stretch performed by a certified FST practitioner. This restorative-based treatment utilizes soft stabilizer bands and manual traction to directly target the fascia, providing a deeper and longer-lasting stretch. FST can be beneficial as a recovery tool for athletes, avid gymgoers, sedentary adults, and patients recovering from a car accident. Sit back and relax as you enjoy a half-hour or one-hour treatment in our quiet, private rooms. Our heated treatment tables with calming, therapeutic music and a professional dedicated to helping you regain function are designed to assist you on your road to a healthier and happier life.

Frequently Asked questions

Get answers to common questions about Kinesiology at Genuine

What is the difference between kinesiology and physiotherapy?

Physiotherapists specialize in assessing injuries, diagnosing physical impairments, managing pain, and developing rehabilitation plans. Kinesiologists focus on implementing those plans through exercise therapy, active rehabilitation, movement retraining, and progressive strength and conditioning. In many cases, clients work with both professionals, beginning with physiotherapy to address pain and injury, then transitioning to kinesiology to rebuild strength, confidence, function, and long-term resilience.

What is the difference between kinesiology and personal training?

Both kinesiologists and personal trainers use exercise to help clients improve their health and fitness, but their scope and focus can differ. Kinesiologists have specialized post-secondary education in human movement, anatomy, biomechanics, and exercise rehabilitation, allowing them to work with individuals recovering from injuries, managing chronic conditions, or requiring active rehabilitation. Personal trainers primarily focus on helping clients improve fitness, strength, body composition, and overall health through structured exercise programs. At Genuine Athletics, our kinesiologists and personal trainers often work together to help clients achieve both rehabilitation and fitness goals.

Can my kinesiologist coordinate care with another healthcare provider?

Yes. With your consent, our kinesiologists can collaborate with your physiotherapist, chiropractor, physician, or other healthcare providers to ensure your exercise program aligns with your overall treatment plan. This collaborative approach helps create a more seamless recovery process, improves communication between providers, and ensures everyone is working toward the same health, rehabilitation, and performance goals.

Will I receive a personalized exercise program?

Yes. Every kinesiology program is tailored to your unique goals, fitness level, injury history, and current abilities. Your kinesiologist will guide you through each stage of the process, making adjustments as you progress to ensure you continue moving safely and effectively toward your goals.

Do I need to be injured to work with a kinesiologist?

No. While kinesiologists play an important role in injury rehabilitation, they also help clients improve strength, mobility, balance, fitness, athletic performance, and overall quality of life. Many people work with a kinesiologist proactively to prevent injuries, improve movement, and stay active long-term.
