Your First Acupuncture Appointment
Never tried acupuncture before? Your first appointment begins with a discussion of your health history, current symptoms, lifestyle, and treatment goals. Acupuncture needles are extremely thin, and most patients experience little to no discomfort during insertion. Once the needles are placed, treatment is typically relaxing.

Cupping Therapy

Cupping therapy is a complementary treatment that uses negative pressure to gently lift and decompress the skin, fascia, and underlying soft tissues. It may help reduce muscular tension, improve local circulation, relieve soreness and stiffness, and support recovery.

At Genuine Athletics & Rehabilitation, cupping can be incorporated into your acupuncture treatment based on your individual needs. Our Registered Acupuncturist utilizes a variety of techniques, including traditional glass fire cupping, silicone cupping, and modern cupping gun therapy, allowing treatment to be tailored to different areas of the body and therapeutic goals.

Whether you're managing persistent muscle tension, recovering from training, or simply looking to move and feel better, cupping can be a valuable complement to your acupuncture treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about acupuncture & cupping

What can acupuncture help with?

Acupuncture may help with a variety of concerns, including back and neck pain, headaches and migraines, muscle and joint pain, sports injuries, muscle tension, stress, sleep concerns, and general recovery and well-being. Your treatment is individualized based on your symptoms, health history, and goals.

Does acupuncture hurt?

Acupuncture needles are extremely thin, and most people experience little to no discomfort during insertion. You may notice a mild sensation such as pressure, warmth, heaviness, or tingling around the treatment area. Many patients find their sessions deeply relaxing.

Is cupping included in my acupuncture treatment?

Cupping may be incorporated into your acupuncture session when appropriate and based on your treatment goals. At Genuine, we have access to traditional glass fire cups, silicone cups, and modern cupping gun therapy, allowing the treatment approach to be tailored to you.

What is the difference between TCM acupuncture and Western medicine dry needling?

While both treatments use thin needles, their approaches and goals are different. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) acupuncture uses specific acupuncture points selected based on your symptoms, health history, and overall presentation, taking a broader approach to pain, recovery, and well-being. Dry needling or IMS is rooted in a Western medical framework and typically targets specific muscles, trigger points, or areas of neuromuscular dysfunction to address pain and movement restrictions.

At Genuine, acupuncture treatment can incorporate traditional principles while considering your individual pain, movement, recovery, and performance goals.

Is acupuncture covered under extended health benefits?

Many extended health plans provide coverage for treatment performed by a Registered Acupuncturist. Direct billing is available to many major insurance providers at Genuine Athletics & Rehabilitation. Coverage varies by individual plan, so we recommend checking your specific benefits for acupuncture coverage.
